Autumn School “Population and Health 2023”

From October 16 to 20, the International Laboratory for Population and Health of HSE University, Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Center and the Strategic Project «National Centre of Science, Technology and Socio-Economic Foresight» held the Autumn School “Population and Health 2023”. More than 20 students, graduate students and young scientists took part in the school. Participants became familiar with approaches to measuring health, mortality data, measures of inequality and current studies, and gained practical experience in calculating various indicators in statistical software R.

Seminar "Why are there more losses in life expectancy for women in covid years in Russia than for men?"

On April 14, at the seminar "Modern Demography", representatives of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Doctor of Economics Irina E. Kalabikhina and Mikhail Maksimov, a master's student, talked about the relationship between women's life expectancy loss during the pandemic years and various demographic and social determinants.

Seminar "Models of the dynamics of viral infections and the impact of quarantine measures on the mental health of the population"

On March 3, at the seminar "Modern Demography", representatives of the Marchuk institute of numerical mathematics of the Russian academy of sciences, graduate student Andrey Vlad and Ph.D. Tatiana Sannikova talked about modeling the seasonality of viral infections and the impact of quarantine measures on the mental health of the population.

On October 15, 2021, the International Laboratory for Population and Health of the Higher School of Economics (NRU HSE), together with colleagues from the Northern State Medical University (NSMU) and the  Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH), held a seminar "Using eHealth data for informed decision-making and increased quality of health care in Russia”.

International seminar "Ageing and frailty in Norway and Russia"

Seminar October 12-13th 2021, Moscow, Russia
With this 2-day seminar, brought together scholars in the field of ageing and frailty for knowledge sharing and networking. Building on the International project on cardiovascular disease in Russia (IPCDR) and the Know Your Heart (KYH) study, we have initiated a project focusing on early ageing in Russia and Norway. The project is lead by Senior Scientist Bjørn Heine Strand at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH), and the project team consists of Dr. Alexander Kudryavtsev, Northern State Medical University (NSMU), coordinator of Heart to Heart collaboration Dr. Laila Hopstock (UiT The Arctic University of Norway), and principal investigator of IPCDR Prof. David Leon, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) / National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE University). The seminar combined of an online and a physical meeting. It is kindly hosted by the HSE University in Moscow with the assistance of Dr. Vladimir Shkolnikov, Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) and HSE University.  The seminar was held in a mixed format.

On March 4, the regular seminar of the Modern Demography series was held. At the seminar, Samin Aref (research scientist, Laboratory of Digital and Computational Demography, Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, Germany) presented "Studies on the migration of researchers and the academic life course using bibliometric data"

Webinar "Challenges in interpreting the mortality impact of COVID-19"

On April 24, the regular seminar of the Modern Demography series was held. At the seminar, David A. Leon (Chief Research Fellow at the HSE University; Professor of Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine; Adjunct Professor at the UiT The Arctic University of Norway) presented the report "Challenges in interpreting the mortality impact of COVID-19".
