Webinar "COVID-19: A Quantitative Assessment of the Pandemic and its Impact on Mortality"

The coronavirus pandemic has spread to almost all countries of the world and by early April 2020 the number of confirmed cases of the disease has exceeded a million milestone. In terms of the impact on the political and economic situation in the world and on people's minds, what is happening has no analogs over the past decades. However, can we reliably quantify this phenomenon? Oddly enough, despite the presence of a huge amount of easily accessible data on the Internet, the quantitative characteristics of the pandemic remain problematic even in economically developed countries. The presentation examined the key points regarding the quality and comparability of COVID-19 cases and deaths, as well as some additional options for objectively measuring the impact of the epidemic on mortality.

Seminar "Inequality in infant mortality rate in the population of modern Russia"

Seminar "Health inequalities in Europe: why so persistent?"

The 15th scientific seminar “Modern Demography” was held on 24 April 2019. The speaker was Johan Mackenbach, MD, PhD, Professor of Public Health, Chair of the Department of Public Health at Erasmus MC, University Medical Center Rotterdam. His report was devoted to health inequalities in Europe, their scope, trends, spatial features and factors determining them. A separate question of the seminar - why the Western European welfare state could not eradicate differences in mortality depending on the socio-economic status of a person?

The 11th scientific seminar ‘Modern demography’ was held on the 24th of may. Mathias Lerch, PhD, research scientist of the Laboratory of fertility and well-being of the Laboratory of fertility and well-being of Max Planck Institute for demographic research presented a paper "Fertility change in urban and rural areas of developing countries".

The seventh scientific seminar ‘Modern demography’, of International laboratory for population and health NRU HSE, was held on 18th of October. Sebastian Klüsener, deputy head of the Laboratory for fertility and social well-being of Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, Rostock, Germany, presented a paper "Social and spatial connectivity and demographic change: Innovative analytical approach based on micro-level census data".
