International Laboratory for Population and Health was established at the HSE in January 2017.

Academic Supervisor

Leading European demographer. Published more than 150 articles and book chapters on mortality and health in Russia and European countries. In 2005 he received an IUSSP–Mattei Dogan Award for Comparative and Multidisciplinary Research in Demography. Member of the Technical Advisory Group on COVID-19 Mortality Assessment, of the Expert Advisory Panel on Health Science and Technology Policy, of the Expert Group to the WHO’s Global Burden of Disease Study, and of the WHO High Level Advisory Panel on Health Statistics. Founder and director of the Human Mortality Database.
Evgeny M. Andreev

Laboratory Head

Leading Russian demographer, one of the first authors of the decomposition methods. One of the founders and developers of the Human Fertility Database and Russian fertility and mortality database. Author of numerous publications about mortality and fertility in Russia.

Our work is devoted to the development of new and already existing demographic and epidemiological methods, that are applied to conduct research in the field of population health and mortality.
We organize regularly International conferences and seminars to present and discuss new scientific results and achievements in the field of demography and related disciplines, and to develop further cooperation with the world's leading demographic centers

The Laboratory cooperates and collaborates with leading Russians and European scientific centers
In 2017-2019 our researchers published 15 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and 12 papers in Russian journals. Three international scientific conferences and workshops were held by the Laboratory.
