Seminar "Modern demography". Topic: "Spatial disparities in cause-specific mortality in Europe: empirical evidence and future research directions". Presentation by Pavel Grigoriev

Event ended

The International Laboratory for Population and Health of the HSE cordially invites you to the next session of the scientific seminar "Modern Demography," which will be held on May 30. Our guest is Pavel Grigoriev, PhD, Research Scientist at the Laboratory of Demographic Data, Max Planck Institute for demographic research.

Abstract

The majority of prior studies on international differences in mortality have focused on cross-country differences without taking into account substantial regional variation within national populations. Spatial variation in mortality represents an important but yet largely underexplored dimension of health inequalities. This is particularly relevant to the countries of the former USSR (FSU) for which detailed mortality data by small area were not available in the past. This talk focuses on empirical evidence obtained from the FSU countries. It also highlights a broad research agenda for studying spatial disparities in cause-specific mortality in Europe, which is crucial for developing and coordinating health policies aimed at reducing geographical inequalities in mortality across and within European countries.
